Fred J. Ray Services Held

Fred Joseph Ray, a lifetime resident of Madison County, died at Memorial Hospital in Winterset last Saturday, August 14, 1971, at the age of 82.

Mr. Ray was born in Scott Township on September 5, 1888, the son of Levi and Mary Beem Ray. He and his wife Crete, were married at the West Star Methodist Church on September 29, 1928. His wife preceded him in death on May 4, 1967.

Mr. Ray worked in Winterset as a clerk at the United Food Store until his retirement in 1965.

He was affiliated with the Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War I, having served overseas. He was also a member of the Green-Rogers American Legion Post in Winterset.

Mr. Ray is survived by one sister, Beulah E. Alcox of St. Charles, a niece Majel Ray Miller of Des Moines, and a nephew Max E. Ray, also of Des Moines. Besides his wife, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, August 16, at the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, with the Rev. Newton Coughenour officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery with military graveside services.
