Walter Loomis Died August 10

Walter F. Loomis, of Afton, a Madison County native and longtime resident, died at the Eblin Nursing Home in Afton last Tuesday, August 10. He was 73 years of age.

Mr. Loomis was born in Madison County on November 8, 1897, the son of Lewis and Bessie Simpson Loomis. On March 14, 1926, he was married to Grace Adcock.

Mr. Loomis was a retired farmer, having farmed in Monroe Township for many years.

He was affiliated with the Church of God at Lorimor.

Three children survive, including two sons, Kenneth of Afton and Robert of Concord, California, and one daughter, Helen, Mrs. John Reed of Winterset; 13 grandchildren; one sister, Elinora (Mrs. Charlie Thurman) of Murray, Iowa and five brothers, Oscar of Grants Pass, Oregon, Carl of Mattherville, Illinois, Homer of Madrid, Fred of Lucerne, Missouri, and Neal of Des Moines, also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, his parents, and a daughter.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. last Friday, August 13 at the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, with the Rev. Carl Bohn of Madrid presiding.

Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
