Carl F. "C.P." Pierce, Windsor Heights

Carl Pierce, 89, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. A Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Theresa's Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Carl was born May 22, 1923 the son of Frank and Pauline Pierce. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and married Mary Catherine Dooley on June 19, 1947 at St. Patrick's Irish Settlement. He retired a proud Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 33 union member after 60 years of service

Carl was a perfectionist in everything he did in life, and was a one-of-a-kind welder. His willingness to teach and share his knowledge made him truly special. Without a doubt, he could fix just about anything broken. He truly enjoyed his family and bragging about his grandchildren. Two highlights of his day were reading his newspaper, watching Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil. Music and dancing was also an important part of Carl's life. He belonged to the Polka Club of Iowa as well as country western and square dance groups. He is now dancing once again with his beautiful wife, Mary in heaven.

He is survived by five children, Maureen Pierce of MA, Frank Pierce of NM, Charrisse (Russ) Bird of West Des Moines, Cheryl (Dave) TanCreti of Des Moines, and Carla (Dennis) Lappe of Clive; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Robert (Ada) Pierce of Panora, IA. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Pierce.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you for the friendship and kindness of the caring staff at Senior Suites of Urbandale and Dr. Joe Schupp.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for distribution to Carl's favorite charities.
