George King Died Monday

George W. King, member of a well-known family in the St. Patrick’s community, died Monday, Oct. 20, at Mercy hospital in Des Moines, after a short illness. He was 61 years of age.

Mr. King was a son of Joseph P. and Mary M. Dooley King, and was born April 23, 1908. Most of his life was spent in farming near Cumming. He served in the U.S. armed forces during World War II.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic church. He was also affiliated with the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion.

Mr. King was married Feb. 5, 1906, to Mabel Speer, who survives him. He also leaves a step-daughter, Mrs. Marcia Cline of Norwalk; three step-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Teresa Bishop of Ankeny; and four brothers, Joseph King of Cumming, Walter King of Van Wert, John King of Prole, and Louis King of Winterset.

Rosary services were held Tuesday from the funeral home in Norwalk. Requiem Mass was said Wednesday from St. Patrick’s Catholic church in the Irish settlement, with burial in the church cemetery there.
