Mrs. C. A. Kast, 83, Dies in Colorado

Mrs. Charles A. Kast, 83, of Winterset, died last Thursday, Oct. 2, at a hospital in Englewood, Colo., where he had been visiting at the home of her son Howard Kast, of Denver.

Her husband had preceded her in death just last April.

Mrs. Kast was the former Ethel Howard, daughter of Joseph E. and Charlotte Skinner Howard. She was born at Forest City Feb. 14, 1886, and spent her early life there. She graduated from high school at Forest City, and attended Iowa Teachers’ college at Cedar Falls. She taught school at Forest City and Rock Rapids prior to her marriage on July 24, 1918, to Charles A. Kast. They had lived in Winterset the last 33 years, and had observed their Golden Wedding day in 1968.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Kast was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Margaret Elnor.

She was a member of the First United Methodist church in Winterset.

Surviving are the son, C. Howard Kast of Denver; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Alice Howard of Nashville, Tenn., and Mrs. Marjorie Beckman, also of Nashville.

Funeral services were held Monday from the First United Methodist church here, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Everett K. Burham. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
