Alphaeus Wolfe of Winterset Dies

Alphaeus Wolfe, a well-known retired Madison county farmer, died Thursday, Aug. 14, at a Winterset nursing home. He was 83 years of age.

Mr. Wolfe was born in Madison county, near Macksburg, on Feb. 18, 1886, a son of Levi and Eliza Marquis Wolfe. His active life was spent in farming in Madison and Adair counties. He had retired several years ago, and moved to Winterset to make his home.

Mr. Wolfe was married Jan. 1, 1909, to Floetta M. Herren of Macksburg, who survives him.

He was a member of the Macksburg United Methodist church.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Alfred Young of Earlham and Mrs. Cecil Drake of Tempe, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. A son, Russell Wolfe, preceded him in death. He also leaves a brother, Glenn Wolfe of Macksburg; a sister, Mrs. Ora Porter of Quincy, Fla.; and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Russell Wolfe of Creston.

Private funeral services were held Saturday from the Watts-Soll Funeral home in Lorimor, conducted by the Rev. Ward Young of Earlham. Burial was made in Moon cemetery at Macksburg.

Alphaeus Wolfe Dies Thursday

LORIMOR — Alphaeus Wolfe, 83, who was a farmer in Madison and Adair counties most of his life but had spent the past nine years in Winterset, died Thursday at his home there.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in Moon cemetery at Macksburg.

Born Feb. 18, 1886 he was the son of Levi and Eliza Marques Wolfe and was educated in the Madison county schools. He was married Jan. 1, 1909 to Floetta M. Herron of Macksburg and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Virginia) Young of Earlham and Mrs. Cecil (Esther) Drake of Tempe, Ariz., six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Russell (Thelma) Wolfe, a sister, Mrs. Ora Porter of Quincy, Fla., and a brother, Glen Wolfe of Macksburg. He was a member of the Methodist church at Macksburg.
