Wednesday, April 9, 1969Samuel Porter Dies At 90 Years
Samuel M. Porter of St. Charles, a life-long resident of Madison county, died Wednesday, April 2 at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 90 years of age.
Mr. Porter was born in Phillips county, Kansas on Feb. 2, 1879, a son of Wilfred S. and Ellen Van Hosen Porter. He was married at Truro on Dec. 25, 1901 to Sadie Leggett.
He was a member of the Truro Christian church.
Surviving are four sons, Claude Porter of Redding, Calif., Ralph Porter of Truro, Fon Porter of Truro and Merrill Porter of Ralston, Nebr.; three daughters, Mrs. Nellie Parker of Truro, Rena Goodell of Omaha and Ethel Bates of Murray; -- grandchildren; -- great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a brother Fon Porter of Hespena, Calif.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Kale Funeral home in Truro, conducted by the Rev. Claude Porter. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

Claude Porter, Redding, California, Gilbert (Bud) Picken, Flint, Michigan; Lowell Porter and son Charles, Ashland, Kentucky; Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Porter and daughter, Fauna, Letcher, Kentucky; Mrs. Kirby (Judie Parker) Seibel, Minot, N. Dakota; Mrs. Tim (Linda Porter) Wall and Miss Connie Porter of Glendive, Montana; and Mr. and Mrs. Carl (Jean D. Porter) Epp, St. Paul, Minnesota.
Those who were here from the Omaha area were: Mrs. Rena Goodell, Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Porter, Rick and Randy; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Picken, Debbie, John and Dennis; Mrs. Ethel Halley and son David and Mr. and Mrs Dwight (Karen Porter) Johnson, Vickie and Leslie; Larry Porter, Lavernne Porter, Mrs. Warren (Janice Porter) Boren and son Tim and Mr. and Mrs. Gary (Joy Porter) Isaac and Mrs. Wilbur (Margaret Porter) Cronk and children, Mark and Kathy of Des Moines.
Twenty-three of the thirty grandchildren were present for the services.
