Mildred Waltz, 102, of Winterset died Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with burial in the Winterset Cemetery.
A visitation will be held 1 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, where family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. and a Prayer Service and Rosary will immediately follow the visitation at 6 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph; St. Jude Children’s Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105) and/or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Mildred Henrietta Waltz was born March 27, 1910 in Des Moines, Iowa; the daughter of Hubert and Regina (Seibert) Freiberg. She graduated from Stuart High School and later married Joseph Waltz on February 5, 1931 in Stuart. He preceded her in death in 1987.
Mildred was a homemaker and farmwife. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also active in 4-H and the Democrat Women.
She enjoyed quilting and gardening. She also loved to fish. Mildred enjoyed making food for others and was known for her wonderful pies. She loved spending time with family and especially loved her many grandchildren who all fondly recall playing rummy with Grandma Waltz.
Mildred is survived by her children, Lilah Ness of Des Moines, Karen (Robert) Jensen of Clarence, Susie (Richard) McCauley of Des Moines, and Dennis (Denise) Waltz of Walker, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son Joseph Waltz Jr. and her siblings, Henry Freiberg, Hazel DenHerder, and Cleo Janssen.
