Charles E. Deets, Sr., 83, of Winterset died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at the Madison County Hospital in Winterset.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Ochiltree Funeral Home in Winterset.
Charles born Feb. 23, 1929, the son of Homer R. and Edna A. (Evison) Deets in Earlham. Charles spent most of his lifetime in the Winterset area. On July 7, 1958, he was united in marriage with Evelyn R. Oglesbee. Charles was a farmer, mechanic, an apple orchard employee and a manufacturing laborer. He also operated his own sanitation business and was on the Lorimor Police Department and was sheriff of Union County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Hazel Olgesbee, and a son, Robert Deets.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; six children: Diane Robison of Decatur, Ga., Linda Howell of Des Moines, Sandra Kephart of Harrison, Ark., Charles Deets, Jr., of Glenwood, Iowa, Chris Deets of Winterset, and Gary Deets of Casey, Iowa; two sisters, Amy Wright of Nevada, and Mary Bowers of Vale, Iowa.
