Jesse Newkirk Died Sunday
Retired Carpenter Had Lived Near St. Charles Past 20 Years
Jesse C. Newkirk of St. Charles died Sunday, March 24 at his home in South township. He was 71 years of age.
Mr. Newkirk was born at Livonia, in Putnam county, Missouri, on June 29, 1896. He was married at Omaha on Feb. 20, 1917, to Margaret Griffith. They moved from Des Moines to Madison county in 1948, and had lived here since that time.
During his active life, he was a carpenter by trade, but had been retired in recent years.
He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Rollie Robbins of Patterson; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a brother, Ledrey Newkirk of Leon.
Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Harold J. Crum of Brayton. Burial was to be made in the Union Chapel cemetery.
