W. A. McCorkle Died Thursday

Well-Known Jackson Township Farmer Was 83 Years of Age

Walter A. McCorkle, member of a well-known Jackson township family, died at Memorial hospital in Winterset Thursday, Sept. 21. He had been a patient at the hospital four days when his death occurred. He was 83 years of age.

Mr. McCorkle was a life-long resident of Madison county. He was born in Jackson township on July 8, 1884, a son of Meritt and JoAnn Mekemson McCorkle.

His active life was spent in farming in Jackson township. He was a member of the board of directors of the Madison county Farm Mutual Insurance company and was long active in Farm Bureau. At one time he served as Jackson township assessor.

He was an active member of the West Star Methodist church, serving on the board of trustees and the church board.

He was married Nov. 3, 1909, to Vergie Seevers, at the home of her parents in Jackson township. She survives him. He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Aaron Howell of Winterset; a son, Kenneth McCorkle of Winterset; four grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the First Methodist church in Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Everett K. Burham. Burial was made in Winterset cemetery.
