William “Billy” Johnson, aged 46, of near St. Charles, was killed last Saturday, June 24, when the pickup he was driving crashed on the North river bridge on Interstate Highway 35.

Mr. Johnson was engaged in farming near St. Charles, and also was employed for the last few months at the American Machine and Foundry company in Des Moines. He was enroute home from work in Des Moines when the accident occurred. Investigating officers said he probably fell asleep at the wheel.

He was a member of the Methodist church.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Peterson of Midwest City, Okla., a son, Perry Johnson of Ft. Hood, Tex.; his mother Mrs. Bess Johnson of St. Charles; a brother, Alex Johnson of Des Moines; and two sisters, Mrs. Norma Strawn and Mrs. Sallie Strawn, both of St. Charles.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the St. Charles Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. James Louk. Burial was made in St. Charles cemetery.
