C. L. Alexander Dies at 85 Years

Followed Blacksmith Trade in Winterset For Half Century

Claude L. Alexander, a Winterset resident for 55 years, died Saturday, September 24, at a Winterset nursing home, after an extended period of failing health. He was 85 years of age.

Mr. Alexander was a retired blacksmith, having worked at that trade in Winterset for half a century.

He was a native of Bowling Green, Missouri, where he was born December 20, 1880, a son of Henson and Rebecca Lucas Alexander. He was married at Gallatin, Missouri, in 1904, to Oris H. Tribbey. Her death occurred three years ago.

He was a member of the First Baptist church of Winterset.

Surviving are eight children, Mrs. Aletha Dvorak of Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. Ola Stout of Iowa City, Mrs. Dorothy Wessell of Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin, Mrs. Gladys Nelson of Huxley, Claude Alexander, Jr., of Middle River, Minnesota, Mrs. Emily Finney of Hutchinson, Kansas, Mrs. Laura McCammon of Des Moines, and Mrs. Betty Myers of Lincoln, Nebraska. He also leaves 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Lucy Lee of Topeka, Kansas.

Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the First Baptist church in Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. H. E. Borum. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
