Injuries Fatal for Ike Barnes

Truro Man Died Sept. 5, of Injuries Received In Tractor Upset

Isam K. “Ike” Barnes of Truro, a resident of Madison county since 1934, died Monday, September 5, in a Des Moines hospital.

Mr. Barnes’ death resulted from injuries received August 27, when the tractor, which he was operating while working on a Truro street, upset. His death is charged as another highway fatality in Madison county, the fifth of the year.

Mr. Barnes was 72 years of age at his death. He was born at Athelstan, in Taylor county, on September 12, 1893, a son of Isam K. Barnes, Sr. and Mary Jane Wilson Barnes. He lived 12 years in Minnesota, before coming to Madison county in 1934.

Mr. Barnes was married at Osceola in 1916 to Daisy Muselman, who survives him. He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Ester Neidt of Truro; three sons, Glen Barnes of Washburn, Kenneth Barnes of Reinbeck and Carol Barnes of Long Beach, California; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Ellen Lorenzen of Peru, Mrs. Louise Simpson of Des Moines and Mrs. Missel Abegg of Gary, Indiana.

Funeral services were held last Thursday from the Kale Funeral home in Truro, conducted by the Revs. Merril Mooberry and James B. Nicholson. Burial was made in Young cemetery at Truro.

Isam K. Barnes Rites in Truro

Funeral services for Isam King Barnes, 72, of Truro, Iowa, were held September 8 at Kale Funeral Home at Truro with Rev. Merryll Mooberry and Rev. James Nicholson officiating. Mr. Barnes died September 5, 1966 at Des Moines General Hospital of complications resulting from a tractor accident at Truro nine days preceding.

Mr. Barnes spent his entire life as a farmer in Madison county except for 12 years in the state of Minnesota. He retired in 1958 and moved to Truro where he was employed as street commissioner.

On June 28, 1916, he was united in marriage to Daisy L. Muselman at Osceola, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Harold, who died in infancy, Esther Neidt of Truro, Glenn of Washburn, Kenneth of Reinbeck and Carroll serving in the U.S. Navy at Long Beach.

He is also survived by three daughters-in-law; one son-in-law; grandchildren; twin great-granddaughters; three sisters; and a host of friends.

He was a cousin of Mrs. Sanford Straight of Sharpsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and two sisters, Clara Bryan and Iva Barnes.

Mr. Barnes was a lover of music and he with his family spent many hours entertaining themselves and others.

He also showed great concern for any community project and spent his entire life improving the appearance of any locality at which he resided. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mr. Barnes’ father built many houses in Taylor County.
