Gold Dorrell of Winterset Dies

Native of Missouri, Lived Most of Life in This County

Gold S. Dorrell, a Winterset resident for 30 years, died Monday, Aug. 29 at Memorial hospital here. He was 81 years of age.

Mr. Dorrell was born in Jefferson county, Missouri, on April 12, 1885, a son of Nicholas and Mary Belcher Dorrell. His early life was spent farming in Madison county. After moving into Winterset 30 years ago, he worked as a painter.

He was a member of the Christian Union church.

Mr. Dorrell was married in 1905 to Bertha Gordon of Winterset. Her death occurred in 1951.

He is survived by five sons, Warren and Nicholas Dorrell of Winterset, Woodrow Dorrell of Thornton, Colo., and Billy and Ronald Dorrell of Winterset; two daughters, Mrs. George Bradshaw of Newton and Mrs. Bob O’Neal of Whittier, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Alberta Creson of Doniphan, Neb.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. this Thursday from Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. William E. Bowles, pastor of the First Christian church here. Burial will be made in the Primitive Baptist cemetery.
