Jack Adams of Winterset Dies

Death Occurs Suddenly While at Work in Barber Shop

Oren O. “Jack” Adams, a well-known Winterset barber for half a century, was stricken with a fatal heart attack Saturday afternoon while at work in his shop here. Mr. Adams was working on a customer when he dropped to the floor suddenly.

Mr. Adams was 71 years of age at his death. He was one of the soldiers who served in World War I with Winterset’s Company A 168th Infantry regiment of the Rainbow division.

A native of Marion county where he was born Nov. 15, 1895 he had been a resident of Winterset for the last 50 years. He was a son of John Quincy and Martha Lucas Adams.

He was one of the original members of the Green-Rogers post of the American Legion in Winterset, and was a past commander of the post. He was also a member of the World War I veterans; a charter member of the Winterset Lions club, and a former member of the Knight’s of Pythias here. He was a member of the First Methodist church.

Mr. Adams was married here Dec. 25, 1921, to Blanche Locke, who survives him. He also leaves three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Spicer of Denver, Colo., Marjorie Ann Adams of Denver, and Mrs. Martha Smith of Arvada, Colo. He also leaves six grandchildren; and two sisters, Alma Adams of San Carlos, Calif., and Mrs. Leta Adams of Essex.

Funeral services were conducted this Tuesday from the First Methodist church of Winterset, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. E. K. Burham, and with military ritual by Green-Rogers post of the American Legion. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
