MARGARET HARRIET SPICK, Norwalk

Margaret Harriet Spick, 97, resident of the Norwalk Nursing and Rehabilitation, Norwalk, IA. passed from this life and went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 9, 2012.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Bud; her special friend, Clarence Wildin; and sisters, Mary, Mable, Georgie, and Thelma. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her three children, daughter, Marijane (Richard) Hornung, Union City, CA, son, Joe (Cathi) West Des Moines, son, Al (Kathy) St. Charles; brother, Louis (Harriet) McDonald, Winterset; sister-in-law, Jane (Bob) Harper, West Des Moines; four grandsons, two granddaughters and seven great grandchildren. Most of all, Margaret will be remembered as a very thoughtful person who was looked upon by the community as a first class lady with a gentle spirit and always a warm smile!

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. and funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Interment will be at Wallace Cemetery in Wick, IA. that overlooks the family farm and homestead. Memorial contributions may be made to the Martensdale-St.Marys Schools. A special thanks from the family of Margaret Spick to the nursing staff at Norwalk Nursing and Rehabilitation for their loving care. She will be missed by all who knew her.

MARGARET HARRIET SPICK, Norwalk, Ia

Margaret Harriet Spick, 97, resident of the Norwalk Nursing and Rehabilitation, Norwalk, IA. passed from this life and went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 9, 2012. 

Margaret was born February 18, 1915 in Eureka, CO. to Joseph & Mahala McDonald. She graduated from Winterset High School and taught school in rural Madison County in a one room country school house. Margaret was united in marriage to Joseph (Bud) Spick on December 22, 1938. They were married for 52 years and raised their children on the family farm in Warren County. 

Margaret was a member of the Bevington Garden Club for over 50 years and earned many first place blue ribbons at the Iowa State Fair with her beautiful roses and floral arrangements. She led a very active life including gardening, reading, bowling, card club, time with friends and family, and traveling well into her 90's. She was a member of the Martensdale Community Church and enjoyed attending bible studies with many of her girlfriends. Margaret opened her home to all and was a fabulous cook known by all for her delicious pies, angel food cake, and homemade one of kind-recipes. Her grandchildren have many fond memories of their grandmother’s enduring love and enjoyed spending time with her on the family farm.
