John Edward Monaghan, 86, of 1405 Highview Drive died of a subdural hematoma Friday at Hospice Kavanagh House. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Mr. Monaghan was born in Patterson and had lived in Des Moines since 1942. He was a retired welder for Gibbs Cook Caterpillar.

Survivors include his wife, Verna; three sons, Michael, Don and Jerry; and two sisters, Katherine Morris and Rose Walker, all of Des Moines; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Southtown Funeral Home where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. today.
