Obituary:

Cal was born in Manson, Iowa September 7, 1927. His parents were Edith and Amon Rufus Egli.

Cal’s Father was a Mennonite minister who passed away when Cal was a young boy. Cal then looked after his Mother until he was drafted in 1945.

After his service in the Army he moved his Mother to Colorado and worked with his brother Don in the trucking business. He then started his own trucking business that was called Cal’s Hauling Service.

While at a Church outing at the local roller rink he met his bride-Norma. Well he actually accidentally on purpose tripped her and then asked her out for a date!! They were married in a small ceremony in Evergreen, Colorado and then had and raised three children, Jim, Tom and Kathy.

Cal sold his trucking business when he was 45 and went to work for Montgomery Wards selling truck tires for 10 years and retired. He and Norma made a business of going to Auctions and garage sales buying broken items and Cal would fix them up and then they would re-sell them.

Cal and Norma were SNOWBIRDS – they would go down to Arizona during the cold Colorado winters. They eventually moved to Arizona and made it their permanent home. In Arizona, they would sell Indian jewelry at the flea market to keep them busy.

As they progressed in their years, their son Tom and his family built them a home in Iowa, they moved to Iowa so they would be near family. When Norma passed away Cal moved to a care center in Des Moines.

Cal and Norma met many special friends thru square dancing. They would take many trips with them from a Caribbean Cruise and going to Hawaii, to camping in the mountains of Colorado.

Cal is survived by his three children, Jim, Tom and his wife Pat, and daughter Kathy. There are 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Cal is in Heaven now free of pain and suffering and most likely square dancing with Norma and playing PRANKS on the Angels!

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Salvation Army.

Service:
10:30 am on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Kale Funeral Home (Truro Chapel) 445 N.W. Street Truro Iowa 50257.

Family will greet friends prior to the memorial service on Thursday.

Cemetery:
Burial of cremains will be in St. Charles Cemetery.
