Charles E. “Chuck” Holtmyer, 88, of Winterset died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.
A memorial service service was held Monday, July 9, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Rev. Dr. Beverlee Bell officiating. His body was cremated, with the cremains being interred in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to his family.
Chuck was born on Jan. 4, 1924, at Montgomery County, Iowa, to Everett and Vera (Chickering) Holtmyer. He was a graduate of Red Oak High School in Red Oak, Iowa and served in the US Army during WW II. Chuck was married on Sept. 29, 1946 at Des Moines, Iowa, to Dorothy Lucille Boyd. To this union were born two children, Connie and Gary, and later adopted two children, Kim and Keith. He had spent most of his life in Winterset. Chuck had been a state inspector for the Iowa State Agriculture Department for many years before retirement He was a member of the American Legion and the First Untied Methodist Church.
Chuck is survived by his daughters, Connie Conkel of Bartlett, Tenn., and Kim Rewerts of Indianola; son, Keith Holtmyer of Des Moines; brother, Maurice Holtmyer of Winterset; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Vera (Chickering) Holtmyer; wife, Dorothy Holtmyer; son, Gary Holtmyer; brother, John Holtmyer; and sister, Lois Schrader.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
