Edith Critz, Indianola

Edith LaVone Critz, 77, of Indianola, died of cancer Jan. 4, 1997 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were Jan. 7 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. Her grandson, Pastor Charles Morris, Jr., and Pastor Doug Helton officiated the services. Burial was at the Young Cemetery in Truro.

She was born in Minnesota on July 11, 1919 to Asher and Edna G. (Kleinbeck) Brand. She married Christopher A. Critz on Jan. 16, 1936 in Creston. She was a homemaker and a former Truro resident. She moved to Indianola in 1990. She was a member of the Grace Church in Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; and one granddaughter.

Surviving relatives include three daughters, Shirley Herold and husband James of Milo, Betty Jean Swan and husband Ed of Des Moines, and Connie Morris and husband Charles of Indianola; one son, Charles Critz of Creston; two sisters, Margaret Lorraine Saltero of Stockton, Calif., and Mary Alice Davis of Osceola; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

EDITH L. CRITZ

Edith LaVone Critz, daughter of Asher and Edna G. Kleinbeck Brand, was born July 11, 1919 at Mapleton, Minn. and died Jan. 4, 1997, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 77.

She received her education in Wells, Minn. She married Christopher A. Critz on Jan. 16, 1936, at Creston. The couple were parents of four children, Shirley, Charles, Betty and Connie.

Mrs. Critz, “Edie”, as most people knew her, was a longtime Truro resident. She was very fond of her garden and flowers and was especially devoted to her family. She moved to Indianola in 1990. While living in Truro she was a faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles. She later transferred to the Grace Church in Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Chris, two brothers, Larry Edward Brand and Ervin Brand and a granddaughter, Cynthia Lynn Swan.

Mrs. Critz is survived by her children, Shirley Herold and her husband, James Herold of Milo; Betty Jean Swan and her husband, Ed Swan of Des Moines; Connie Morris and her husband, Charles of Indianola; and Charles Critz of Creston; sister, Margaret Lorraine Saltero of Stockton, Calif.; brother, Duane LuVerne Brand and his wife, Sherry Brand, of Price Utah; sister, Mary Alice Davis of Osceola, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at Kale Funeral Home, Osceola, on Jan. 7, with her grandson, Pastor Charles Morris Jr. and Pastor Doug Helton officiating. Organist Pennie Gonseth accompanied Dan Hayton who sang How Great Thou Art, good Night and Good Morning, He is as Close as the Mention of His Name.

Burial was in the Young Cemetery at Truro. Pallbearers were grandsons, Rodney Herold, Mark Herold, Monty Beard, Mike Taylor, Jerry Sinclair, Kelly Critz, Randy Swan, Steve Swan.
