GARY LEE BRANDT, West Des Moines

Gary Lee Brandt, 54, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2011. Visitation will be Thursday, December 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. The funeral service will be Friday, December 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Valley Junction Church of God, 317 Elm St. in West Des Moines.

Gary was born June 7, 1957 in Des Moines to Harold and Louise Brandt. He graduated from Urbandale High School and then attended mechanical school. After school he started his own business in residential construction. He worked for many years as a locator of utility lines. He educated his family with the location of all the lines, and was the go to person for directions around Des Moines. Gary was a family man with a wonderful sense of humor. He was quick to tell a story or bring a smile to those around him. He always put his family and friends first and sacrificed much for them. Gary enjoyed many interests; baking, canning, gardening, landscaping, wrenching, fishing, collecting flashlights, and he treasured his Harley. He was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association, Valley Junction Church of God, and volunteered for various organizations including Toys for Tots.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Becca Brandt; mother, Louise Swift; daughter, Jessica (Derek) Canute; son, Shawn (Julie) Nordgren; step-sons, Chad Carlson and Jesse Ramey; grandchildren, Skylar, Noah and Zachary Nordgren and Bradley Carlson; his brother, Larry (Polly) Brandt; step-brother, Keith (Helen) Thorpe; and step-sister, Kay (John) Krueger. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold; uncle, Bob Stephenson; aunt, Lucille Stephenson; and his ex-father-in-law, Duane Carlson.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Contributions will then be forwarded to the Valley Junction Church of God and the Christian Motorcycle Association.
