Clarence Henry Martens, Winterset

Clarence Henry Martens, 91, died on September 22, 1992, at Winterset Care Center of congestive heart failure. Funeral services were held on Thurs., Sept. 24, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of rural Van Meter, with Pastor Kenneth Belz officiating. Burial was at the church’s cemetery.

Mr. Martens was born on May 10, 1901, to Fredrick and Anne (Russ) Martens at rural Martensdale. He married Cora Ann Petri on December 11, 1935, in Dexter. She died in 1958 and he was remarried to Mae Erma Koboldt on September 21, 1960. He retired from farming in 1965. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the cemetery board, the Trinity Men’s Club, was cemetery custodian, and a church trustee.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, and five brothers.

Surviving relatives include his wife; a sister, Esther Storck of DeSoto; two brothers, Irving and Grant Martens, both of Winterset.
