Bernice L. Smart, 77, of Norwalk died of complications following brain surgery Thursday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Parish in St. Charles. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery there.

Mrs. Smart was born in Creston and had lived in St. Charles and Truro area most of her life. She worked in the bakery of Younkers downtown and was a member of the Eagles Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Estell of Norwalk; three sons, Sam of San Antonio, Texas, Jerry Armstrong of Des Moines and William Armstrong of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Pauline Kelleher of Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Lee Armstrong of Eugene, Ore.; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Westover Funeral Home.
