Ruth Downs, 83, of 3919 70th St., Urbandale, died of pneumonia Tuesday at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Westover Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery in St. Charles.

Mrs. Downs was born in Ringgold County and had lived in State Center before moving to Urbandale in 1949. She had been an Avon sales representative during the 1960’s, had worked for an ordinance plant during World War II and had taught school in St. Charles. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star in State Center and Urbandale American Legion Auxiliary and did volunteer work at Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Lois Chandler of Modale; a son, Harold of Urbandale; a sister, Zoa Burns of Urbana, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
