RUTH SAXTON, CRESTON

Ruth Saxton, 90, of Creston, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at the Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 10, at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston, with burial in the Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are to be established.

Ruth Juanita Saxton was born Sept. 6, 1921, in Jefferson, Iowa, to May (Hayden) Barker and Ross L. Barker. Ruth attended school in Davenport, Cooper, Adair, Macksburg and Winterset. She later graduated from Macksburg High School in 1939. On Sept. 11, 1946, Ruth was married to Harry Elias Saxton in Atchison, Kan. They settled on a farm near Macksburg. Ruth was a homemaker, and worked for seven years at stores in Winterset, Des Moines and Tampa, Fla. Ruth was divorced Sept. 1, 1998. Ruth has been a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Larry Saxton; four sisters, Gladys Rydings, Anne Wirth, Mildred Franz and Joy Dimond; and five brothers, Forest Barker, Gail Barker, Harold Barker, Ralph Barker and Virgil Barker.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Abell of Creston; one son, Roger Saxton of Creston; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her brother, Lloyd Barker of Washington.

Ruth Saxton, 90, of Creston, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at the Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the Powers Funeral Home, junction of Highway 25 and 34 in Creston. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday April 9, 2012 with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials are to be established.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Abell of Creston; one son: Roger (wife Mary) Saxton of Creston; nine grandchildren: Scott Blum of Utah, Sonny Saxton, Amber Saxton, Dustin Saxton all of Springfield, Missouri, Tiffany (husband Mark) Tauscheck of Des Moines, Lacey (husband Corey) Brown of Olathe, Kansas, Chelsey Abell of Indianola, Paula (husband Neal) Linch of Reston, Virginia, and Jeremy Saxton of Cedar Falls; five great-grandchildren and her brother Lloyd Barker of Washington.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, son Larry Saxton, four sisters; Gladys Rydings, Anne Wirth, Mildred Franz, Joy Dimond and five brothers; Forest Barker, Gail Barker, Harold Barker, Ralph Barker and Virgil Barker.
