The Reverend Daniel C. Roach, 91, of Manila, Philippine Islands, formerly of Bevington, died April 2, 2012.
Funeral services were held April 4 at the Chapel of Saints in Manila.
Father Roach was born in Bevington, Iowa, on April 29, 1920, the son of Margaret Cunningham Roach and Martin Roach, Sr. He graduated from Winterset High School with the class of 1937. He then attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1942. Father Roach then entered the service of his country with the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Sergeant, serving during World War II from 1942-1945. In 1946 Father Roach entered the Blessed Sacrament Congregation, and was ordained a priest in 1952. He taught in Eymard Preparatory Seminary in New York from 1953-1957, at which time he was assigned as assistant parish priest to the Santa Cruz Parish in Manila, Philippines. He served until 1961, when he was assigned Master of Novices in the Novitiate-Seminary of the Blessed Sacrament Congregation San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, Philippines, where he was stationed for the remainder of his life.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Joe Roach, Martin Roach Jr., Mary Roach Drees, Eleanor Roach L’Estrange and Kieran Roach.
He is survived by 19 nieces and nephews and their families, many of whom remain in Madison County and surrounding areas.
