Services for Frank Wesley Comp, 98, Winterset, who died Nov. 12 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, were held Friday, Nov. 15 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clarence Lautt officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.
Born Nov. 5, 1887 in Douglas township of Madison County, he was the son of Joseph and Savilla Johnson Comp. A retired farmer, Mr. Comp was a lifetime resident of the county and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Sixty Plus Club, a member of the Senior Citizens bowling group and the Golden Agers.
He was married to Mabel Fenimore on March 31, 1915 in her home in Jackson township of Madison County.
Survivors include daughters, Bernice Heichel of Winterset and Ilo Dodge of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a grandson, a great-grandson, two great-granddaughters and a great-great grandson.
Mr. Comp was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a twin daughter, a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter, three brothers and two sisters.
He was a member of the Farmers Cooperative Association, the Farm Bureau and one of the original directors of the Farmers Electric Cooperative of Greenfield. In 1973 he was crowned king of the Madison County Covered Bridge Festival.
