Death of MRS. MARY MURRAY

Mrs. Mary Murray, widow of the late James Murray, died Monday at the home of her sister, Mrs. Bessie Smith in Ft. Madison. The body accompanied by Mrs. Murray's nephew, John Irwin of Burlington, arrived here yesterday evening and the funeral will be held at 2 p.m., today from the old Murray home in the south part of town.

The Murrays came to Winterset from Chariton, Iowa, in the seventies. Mr. Murray was a blacksmith by trade and followed that occupation up to the time of his death. They will both be long remembered in Winterset as upright, God-fearing people of splendid character. Both were devoted members and for many years active workers in the Presbyterian church of Winterset.

MARY A. MURRAY

Mary A. Murray was born in Belmont county, Ohio, June 25, 1837.She was a daughter of Henry and Rosannah Smith. At the age of 17 she was united in marriage to Isaac Mahlin, coming to New London, Iowa as a bride. Mr. Mahlin only lived one year. Her parents having moved to Iowa at this time she made her home with them until her marriage to James Murray in 1859. They removed to Winterset in 1872 where she has had her home ever since.

To this union was born three children, two dying in infancy. One son, Fred G. Murray, grew to manhood in Winterset, later going to Fort Madison, Iowa, where he was employed as clerk in the yardmaster's office of the Santa Fe railway. He made his home with his aunt, Mrs. E. D. Smith. After this home he lived until called by death in 1900, his father passing away two years later, leaving Mrs. Murray alone in her home until October, 1918, when she was taken to St. Louis, where her sister, Mrs. E. D. Smith and Mrs. I. A. Pyle have lovingly and faithfully cared for her until death relieved her from her earthly suffering, Jan. 26, 1920.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. E. D. Smith. Mrs. Murray has lived a faithful consistent member of the Presbyterian church since girlhood. Her sterling qualities endeared her to all who knew her and she will be missed and her place be vacant in the hearts of her friends.
