DEBORD BABY DROWNS

A most distressing accident occurred at Patterson on last Wednesday when the year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Debord was drowned in a partly filled boiler. Mrs. Debord who was not feeling well, had lain down for a minutes rest. The little one was playing on the porch and fell into a wash boiler that was partly filled with water and tomatoes. The screams of the mother attracted the attention of neighbors who carried the body to the doctor's office nearby, but life was extinct and every effort to restore life was of no avail. The parents are nearly heart broken and the deepest sympathy is expressed on every hand.

HELEN BEATRICE DEBORD

Helen Beatrice, daughter of Claude and Ruth DeBord, was born July 22, 1918 in Patterson, Iowa, and died October 1, 1919, aged 1 year and 2 months and 9 days. Apparently enjoying most splendid health, little Helen was playing about the home unaware of ever lurking danger when by a misstep she fell into a partly filled vessel of water, where after feeble efforts toward release from the hand of death, the little body was found by the grief stricken mother.

A doctor was summoned at once and made every possible effort to resuscitate the drowned child all to no avail. Another event with mysterious bearings has been ushered into our home and community life by the accidental death of this little child. Providential dealings with the race have ever been more or less combined with mystery therefore we can still encourage men to believe in God as working out or finishing His beautiful design or plan or purpose even through the premature and tragic death of this child.

Rev. Fred Warner, a former pastor, held the funeral services in the Patterson M. E. church on Thursday at 2 p.m. The remains were laid to rest in the McGinnis cemetery.
