John Henry Brandt, Jr., 69, of Dexter, died of cancer May 17, 1996 at the Kavanaugh House in Des Moines. Memorial services were May 21 at the Dexter United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kathy Sides officiated the services and burial of the cremains was at Mill Lacs Lake in Minnesota.

He was born to John and Emma (Kubesh) Brandt on Nov. 11, 1926 at Danube, Minn. He graduated from upper Iowa University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a double minor in political and social sciences and music. He married Dee Kinney in Des Moines in April 1970. He was employed by Quaker State and Standard Oil Companies and later he was in the insurance business for 35 years and in 1994 he moved to Dexter and was employed by United Services Insurance Co. of Earlham until he retired due to illness. He had served in the United States Army Air Force and was stationed at Shephards Field, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and one son.

Surviving relatives include his wife; three sons, Larry Brandt, Rick Brandt, and Richard Brandt; one daughter Diane; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
