MRS. MATILDA CARPENTER

Mrs. Matilda Carpenter, who was taken to a hospital in Des Moines and operated upon the first of December, passed away last Saturday, Jan. 3rd. Her remains were brought here for burial, funeral services being held in the Methodist church on Tuesday and her remains were laid to rest in the St. Charles cemetery by the side of her husband.

She leaves to mourn her loss four brothers, one sister, four daughters and one son.

COUNTY NEWS – St. Charles

Mrs. Matilda Carpenter who had been taken to Des Moines a month ago and underwent an operation at the Lutheran hospital died there last Saturday night and was brought to St. Charles via Hanley last Sunday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church next Tuesday afternoon and interment will be made in the St. Charles cemetery by the side of her husband, P. V. Carpenter of the 39th Iowa Regiment.

Mrs. Carpenter for many years lived on a farm in the Broad Horn neighborhood, moving to St. Charles about three years ago. She was an excellent woman and made many friends during her short residence in St. Charles.

She leaves to mourn her loss but three sons, four daughters, several grandchildren, four brothers and a host of friends.
