Arthur R. Searles, aged 82, died early Friday morning at the Winterset hospital. He had been in failing health for several years, but had been acutely ill for only a week.
Mr. Searles had visited in Winterset a number of times, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. B. Hickenlooper. He was the eldest of three children, and was born Oct. 22, 1856 to Ransom S. and Chrischaney Damon Searles, at Oelwein. Early in life he moved with his parents to Jesup, where he grew to manhood. He was married Dec. 3, 1876 to Alice Harriet Schrack, who died June 20, 1908.
He is survived by his two children, Harry R. Searles of Blockton, and Mrs. Hickenlooper of Winterset; also a sister, Mrs. W. H. McBride, of Cleveland, Ohio, and five grandchildren: Mrs. John E. Peterson and Margaret Hickenlooper of Des Moines; and Naomi, Norma and Harold Searles of Blockton.
Funeral services were held at the Parker funeral home in Jesup Sunday at 1:30 o’clock, and burial was made in the Jesup cemetery.
