BENTON J. LADD

Benton Jasper Ladd was born in Cass county, Indiana, Dec. 5, 1839, and passed away Nov. 21, 1919 at the age of 80 years at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. B. Monk, in Douglas township, Madison county, Iowa. He was married to Martha A. Hall, Feb. 14, 1858 at Clarinda, Iowa.

To this union were born 13 children, 8 of whom survive him; the wife and mother dying May 17, 1890. The remaining children are J. E., of Fargo, Okla; J. W., of Winterset; C. P. of Linden, Iowa; Mrs. Rose Starr, Oakes, N. D.; Mrs. Mary Monk, Winterset; Mrs. Ella Thomas, Omaha, Nebr.; H. B., Kansas City and J. J. of Winterset; five of those being present at the funeral. There are also 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one brother, Chris Ladd of Sparks, Okla.; and one sister, Mrs. Nancy Hall of Waterloo, Iowa, left to mourn their loss.

A number of years ago, Father Ladd joined the home church at Sparks, Okla., where he lived the last 12 years of his life, except the past few months, which he has spent with his daughter, Mary, who also had the privilege of caring for her invalid mother.

After a brief service at the home, the funeral was held from the Jefferson U. B. church by the Rev. Morse of Worthington, after which the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in Jefferson cemetery, on Saturday afternoon.
