Peru Happenings

S. B. Hamand died at the home of his son, L. A. Hamand and family here, Friday evening. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Smith of Melcher.

Mr. Hamand had been in business in Melcher until a few months ago when his health failed so he had to give up the business. He was also 84 years old.

Burial was made in the Peru cemetery by his wife, who preceded him in death in 1939.

LAST RITES FOR S. B. HAMAND, 83

Former Postmaster In Peru. Funeral Held Monday. Son Survives.

S. B. Hamand, a former postmaster in Peru, died there Friday at the home of his son, L. A. Hamand, with whom he had been making his home.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Peru Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Smith of Melcher. The Masonic lodge of which he was a member, conducted the last rites at the cemetery. Burial was made in Peru.

Mr. Hamand, who was 83 years old, was born and reared in Illinois, moving to Peru from Nebraska about 40 years ago. He had been engaged in farming and was postmaster at one time. He moved to Truro from Peru and for the last 20 years had lived in Melcher where he operated a produce business until recently. Mrs. Hamand preceded him in death in June, 1939.
