MRS. J. ERNEST CARMAN, FORMER RESIDENT, DIED AT COLUMBUS, OHIO
A message came to Mrs. W. H. Breeding Sunday evening that her sister-in-law, Mrs. J. Ernest Carman had passed away at her home in Columbus, Ohio, after a lingering illness.
Before her marriage a number of years ago, she was Miss Gertrude Hancox and her father was pastor of the Methodist church here from 1897 to 1899 but her home has been in Columbus for many years.
The body reached St. Charles Wednesday morning and funeral services were held in the Methodist church at 10:30 with burial in the St. Charles cemetery. More details of her life will be given next week.

Page 1Held Funeral Services For Mrs. Carman Here Jan. 28th
Funeral rites for Mrs. Gertrude Hancox Carman of Columbus, Ohio were held Wednesday morning at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Merle Gable of Fairfield who was a classmate of Mrs. Carman’s in Simpson college, and assisted by Rev. L. M. Kirby and Rev. J. F. Arnold. Accompanying the body here were her husband and son Ralph, a student at Wesleyan Boy’s college in Middletown, Conn. Mrs. Carman graduated from the St. Charles high school in the class of 1900, and the following pallbearers were classmates and school mates: L. B. Sayre, J. H. Anderson, C. C. Guilliams, J. W. Picken, Dr. I. K. Sayre, and Rev. S. C. Picken.
Of her immediate family she leaves her mother, 94 years of age, two sisters, and two brothers. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
Out of town relatives and friends who came to attend the services were Mrs. J. H. Nixon, of Nevis, Minn., J. Ernest Breeding of Pekin, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. John Hancox and Mrs. Stella Allen of Atlantic, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Breeding, Rev. and Mrs. S. C. Picken and B. B. Mack of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Perry and John Horsley from Indianola, and Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Sayre of Winterset.
