LEONA L. JAY, DES MOINES, IOWA

Leona L. Jay, 89, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines. A graveside service was held Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Masonic Cemetery.
 
Leona was born Sept. 9, 1922, to Walter and Olive Mae (Parsons) Buck in Brooklyn, Iowa. She had lived in Ottumwa, Winterset and Des Moines. In December of 1940 she married Robert Edward Jay. Leona worked in the cosmetics department of Younkers for many years. 

Memberships included the First Christian Church of Ottumwa and Winterset, Grand Lodge Lady Auxiliary and Eastern Star. Leona taught crafts at nursing homes and volunteered to staff hospital gift shops. She enjoyed coordinating the annual Eastern Star garage sale. 

Survivors include her daughter, Karen “Sue” (Richard) Timeon of Des Moines; grandson, Kim Day of Winterset; brother, Marvin (Harriett) Buck of Ankeny and four nieces and nephews. Leona was preceded in death by her husband, sister, Letha Blair, brother, Lee Buck and sister-in-law, Jean Buck.
