Darline Frances (Hootman) Horn, 87, of Winterset, Iowa, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at Care Center South in Winterset.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Rev. Dr. Beverlee Bell officiating. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, at the First United Methodist Church. The body has been cremated with the cremains being interred in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Douds, Iowa, on a later date.
Darline was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Van Buren County, Iowa to Walter and Emma (Zuehlke) Hootman. She grew up in the Douds area and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1941.
After further training she became a rural schoolteacher for several years. She married Thomas G. Horn in 1946. To this union were born four sons. They later divorced in 1976. She arrived in Winterset in 1960. She worked as an accountant with JC Penney’s in Winterset and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She also worked for Winterset Community Schools as the head of the hot lunch program.
She enjoyed her many hours of volunteering at the Madison County Hospital, as well as crossword puzzles, traveling, crocheting and reading. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Tops, Winterset Child Welfare Club and the First United Methodist Church of Winterset.
She delighted in spending time in the homes of her sons and visiting with her grandchildren and great-granddaughters.
Darline was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Emma Hootman; her sisters, Norma Dingman and Helen Finney; and daughter-in-law, Robin Horn. She is survived by her four sons, Thomas (Susan) of Adel, Richard (Beverly) of Sarasota, Florida, Darrell (Elizabeth) of West Des Moines, and Eric (Maureen) of Spring, Texas. She is also survived by her beloved ten grandchildren: Jennifer (Toby) Adkins, Ryan Horn, Nathan Thorn, Justin Horn, Emily (Dan) Fincham, Duane Horn, Jessica Horn, Alissa Vriezelaar, Abby Vriezelaar, and Kyle Horn; and two great-granddaughters, Rachel Horn and Shelby Adkins.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Winterset, Iowa.
