Ruth Helen Bobenhouse Hunter, 94, of Cedar Rapids formerly of Earlham passed away February 8, 2012 at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 13 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. Burial will follow the service in the Earlham Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Earlham United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Helen, as she was known by her family and friends, was born March 6, 1917, in Des Moines, to Fred F. and Emily Estella (Anderson) Anderson. She grew up in Des Moines and was a proud graduate of East High School with the class of 1934. Helen was united in marriage to Dr. Harlan Henry Bobenhouse on March 28, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri and together they became the proud parents of two sons, James and Richard. After their marriage they lived in Harlan, Otteson, and Bode before making their home in Earlham in 1941. Together they opened a medical clinic in Earlham and operated it for several years. Dr. Bobenhouse passed away on September 7, 1960. After her husband's passing, Helen went to school and became a licensed LPN graduating on August 20, 1964. She was employed at the Dexter Hospital and the Madison County Hospital for several years before retiring. Helen was united in marriage to Fred R. Hunter in Iowa City at the United Methodist Church and together they made their home in Earlham. Fred precedes her in death. Helen continued living in Earlham until moving to Cedar Rapids in 2001 to be close to her sons. Helen was very proud to be a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and she belonged to the Earlham United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, chocolate covered peanuts, jig saw puzzles, gardening, keeping her yard looking meticulous, reading and spending quality time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Emily Anderson, husbands, Dr. Harlan Bobenhouse and Fred Hunter, son, James Bobenhouse, great grandson, Charles Murrer, brother, Walter Anderson, sister, Eleanor Hagen, step-daughter, Elizabeth Christenson and daughter-in-law, Judy Moore.

Helen leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son Dr. Richard (Crete) Bobenhouse of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law, Lori Bobenhouse of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Dr. Robert (Marjorie) Anderson of West Des Moines; sister, Rev. B. Jean (John) McKinney of Des Moines; step-daughter, Peg Schafer of Earlham; grandchildren, Sharon Bobenhouse (Robert) Murrer, Richard Bobenhouse, Dr. Patricia Bobenhouse, Dr. Sarah Bobenhouse (Damon) Fairfield, Andrew Bobenhouse, Steven (Courtney) Nall, and Jeffrey (Suzanne) Nall; great grandchildren, Nicholas, Amy (Nicolas), Andy, Liz, Maya, Logan, Walker and Reese and two great-great grandchildren Carolina and Enzo and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom will miss her greatly.
