Mrs. Lillian Spencer, a long time resident of Madison county, passed away Saturday morning at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines where she had been taken Wednesday, after falling and breaking her hip. Mrs. Spencer had been living with her son, Ira, and family on the old Spencer farm where a new house had been built during the past year, in the site of the one which burned a few years ago.
The funeral of Mrs. Lillian Spencer was held at the Fisher funeral home in Van Meter Monday afternoon with burial at Booneville.

Elderly Woman Had Lived on Lee Township Farm for 50 Years
Van Meter—(Special)—Mrs. Lillian Spencer of Lee township died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines Saturday, following a fall sustained on New Year’s Eve at the home of her son, Ira Spencer, in which she fractured her hip. She was 80 years of age.
Mrs. Spencer was the former Lillian A. Underhill and was born in Indiana on April 27, 1860. In 1887 she was married to Henry Spencer. He passed away in May, of 1904.
Her married life was spent in Lee township. For 50 years her home was on the farm now occupied by her son.
She was a member of the United Brethren church and took an active part in the missionary society and other church activities. She was also active in Farm Bureau work.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth, and two daughters, Marjorie and Bessie. She is survived by three sons, Donald of Des Moines, Ralph of California and Ira of Booneville; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the Fisher funeral home Monday in Charge of the Rev. E. A. Elliott of Des Moines. Burial was made in the Booneville cemetery. Pallbearers were: Ray, Pearl and Hobart Spencer, Willis and H. R. Smith, and Luther Holcomb.
