HOLD SERVICES FOR J. P. SMALL SEPT. 3rd

St. Charles — (Special) — Funeral services for J. P. Small were held at the Methodist church last Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Lucille L. Smith, assisted by Rev. J. F. Arnold.

Johnny, as he was familiarly known was 77 years of age, and was born in Warren county, and with the exception of one year spent in Dakota, had lived his life in Warren and Madison counties. He and his sister, Miss Emma tenderly cared for their aged parents until their death many years ago, but since that time they had been living together, and had been residents of St. Charles many years. He will be greatly missed by a number of orphaned nieces and nephews, whom he took into his home and regarded them as his own, rearing them to young manhood and womanhood.

He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Hannah Phillips of Prairie City, Mrs. Eva Robinson of Oregon and Miss Emma of St. Charles and a number of nephews and nieces.

Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral were Mrs. Hannah Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. M. J. DeWitt of Prairie City, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hartman, of Monroe, Mrs. Elizabeth Stiles, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Painter and Miss Mabel Painter, Mrs. Joe Dyer, Mrs. Alfred Cotnam, Mrs. Carrol Frush of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Small of Marshalltown, Grant and Hoyt Gates and Hugh Ball of Norwalk, and Curt Thompson of New Virginia.

The Masonic burial ritual was given at the graveside.
