Mrs. F. R. Porter of Truro passed away at the hospital in Des Moines Tuesday of last week with funeral services in Truro Friday afternoon and burial in the St. Charles cemetery.

MRS. F. R. PORTER DIED AT A DES MOINES HOSPITAL LAST TUESDAY

Mrs. F. R. Porter, who had been in the Methodist hospital in Des Moines several weeks following an operation, died Tuesday. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Methodist church in charge of the Rev. T. J. Kelley, of Mt. Ayr, with burial in the St. Charles cemetery.

TRURO LADY PASSES ON

Alberta Dowler Porter, daughter of Joseph and Maratha Dowler was born March 27, 1866 in Walnut township, Madison County, Iowa and departed this life, Tuesday Nov. 12, 1940 at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 74 years, 7 months and 16 days.

As a young lady she attended Ackworth Academy and taught for a short time.

At the early age of 17 she gave her heart to the Quaker Faith, later affiliating with the Methodist Church at Truro. She has ever remained true to her Christ and during days of her last illness expressed her readiness whenever he called.

On Oct. 14, 1889, at Winterset, Iowa she was united in marriage to Fletcher R. Porter of Truro. This couple had the happy experience of celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary together a year ago last Oct. 14th; when they opened their home to their friends.

Besides her husband: (Fletcher) she leaves their four children, Boyd Porter of Gowrie, Ia; Mrs. O. R. Beeler, Truro, Ia; Mrs. L. E. Shutt, Iowa City, Ia; and Lucie E. Porter, Sioux City, Ia. Seven grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Two brothers, Mr. Steward Dowler, St. Charles Ia and Mr. Hamilton Dowler, Casper, Wyo. One sister, Mrs. W. A. Porter of Truro, Iowa and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Porter, lived her entire life in Madison County with the exception of 2 years, 1897-98 lived in Warren county.

She was a devoted wife, a kind loving mother, good neighbor and friend. Her going will leave many lonely ones in the community. She has served well.

Mrs. F. R. Porter Dies In Hospital

Mrs. F. R. Porter, 74-year-old resident of Truro, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines on Tuesday of last week. She had been in poor health for some time and a few weeks ago entered the hospital where she underwent an operation.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at two o’clock in the Methodist church in charge of the Rev. Kelley assisted by Rev. Watson and Rev. Finch. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

Mrs. Porter is survived by her husband; one son, Boyd Porter of Gowrie, Ia.; three daughters, Mrs. Nina Beeler of Truro; Mrs. Josie Shutt of Iowa City and Miss Lucy Porter of Sioux City; seven grand-children; and one great grandchild; 2 brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Porter was the former Miss Alberta Dowler before her marriage and a year ago in October they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. She and her husband have operated the Truro Hotel for several years.

Long – Time Madison County Resident Died Recently in Des Moines

Truro –(Special) – Mrs. Alberta Porter, a resident of Madison county for all but two years of her life, died Nov. 12 at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines. She was 74 years of age.

Mrs. Porter was the former Alberta Dowler, daughter of Joseph and Martha Dowler, and was born in Walnut township on March 27, 1866.

She was a graduate of Ackworth Academy, and a former school teacher. When she was 17 years old she had united with the Quaker faith, later affiliating with the Methodist church in Truro.

On Oct. 14, 1889, she was married in Winterset to Fletcher R. Porter of Truro. Little more than a year ago, on Oct. 14, 1939, they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Boyd Porter of Gowrie, Mrs. O. R. Beeler of Truro, Mrs. L. E. Shutt of Iowa City, and Lucie E. Porter of Iowa City. She also leaves seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers, Steward Dowler of St. Charles and Hamilton Dowler of Casper, Wyo.; and one sister Mrs. W. A. Porter of Truro.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Truro, Nov. 15, with the Rev. Thomas Kelley of Mt. Ayr officiating. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
