Obituary - C. H. Skellenger

Charles Henry Skellenger was born June 8, 1860, in Livingston County, New York and died October 10, 1937, at Fairacres Hospital in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, at the age of 77 years, four months and two days. He spent his early boyhood in New York and Pennsylvania. At the age of fourteen he came by wagon with his parents to the state of Iowa, where he grew to manhood.

On February 15, 1886, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Wiggins. To this union four children were born: Luther, who died in infancy, Lester, of Broadwater, Victor, of Denver, Colorado and Mrs. Hazel McManis of Edgewater, Colorado.

Mr. and Mrs. Skellenger lived on a farm in Iowa for a short time after their marriage and then moved to Des Moines, Iowa where they lived until 1909 when Mr. Skellenger homesteaded the land where he has since lived.

They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1936.

Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his passing three brothers: R. O. Skellenger, of Menlo, Iowa, Wil, of Knoxville, Iowa and John, of Adair, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. May Wiggins of Canada, and five grandchildren.

Transcriber's note: Mr. Skellenger was married in Madison County and he and his wife lived there for a while afterward.
