Peru Happenings

Joe Ray died at his home here Friday morning. The funeral was held at the church here Sunday afternoon. Mr. Ray had been bedfast for a long time and was cared for in his home the past several months by Mr. and Mrs. Everett Ford and family who lived with him.

Joseph Ray Died Friday In Peru

Joseph W. Ray, a resident of Madison county for more than 50 years, died at his home in Peru Friday, June 23, at the age of 77 years. He had been in ill health during the past three years.

Joseph Willard Ray, the son of Levi and Frances Ray, early settlers of the Elm Grove community, was born in Madison county Aug. 30, 1861. About 25 years of his life was spent in Canada and the remainder in Madison county.

He is survived by 11 nieces and two nephews, daughters and sons of his deceased brother Levi and sister, Sarah. Levi Ray died six weeks ago and his sister, Sarah Ray Hoover preceded him in death two years ago.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon in the Peru church and burial was made in the Elm Grove cemetery.
