Page 1, Column 4Austin Reed was born Sept. 23, 1852 in Tusco, Raovis Co., Ohio; died June 18, 1918, aged 65 yrs, 8 mo., and 25 days.
He came with his parents to Iowa during the civil war about 1863 and lived for over forty years on the same farm.
In 1874 he was married to Alice C. Hurt. To this union was born two daughters, one dying infancy and the other is Alma E. Beem living at Elliott, N. Dak.
He was married again to Altha M. Beardsley Dec 27, 1893. To this union was born three sons, Frank A. in the United States service, stationed at Camp Dodge, Ia., Eddie in the United States service, stationed a Camp McArthur, Texas, and Robert L. of Peru.
Fifteen years ago he was convert and joined the Christian church of Peru.
He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, three sons, one daughter, his mother, one sister, one brother, three grandchildren and one great grandchild, besides a community of friends. His entire life was full of tender devotion and sympathy for everyone.
No matter what the cost he was always ready to lend a helping hand. He never was a very stout man but when his boys had to leave him he bore up so bravely and tried so hard to take up the burden of their work and in so doing received the fall two weeks ago which caused his death. Why he could not stay we do not know, our hearts are sad for we’ll miss him so. His last words here “Be for the right, good-bye”
Poem follows...
