North Branch

John Hubbard, for many years a resident of this neighborhood passed away at the state hospital at Clarinda, March 12th, where he had been taken for treatments the week before. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in De Soto last Friday afternoon and burial at the McDonald cemetery. Mr. Hubbard was 79 years of age at the time of his death.

DeSoto Happenings

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the M. E. church for J. D. Hubbard, who had passed away at Clarinda the preceding Wednesday, after an illness dating back a number of years. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. S. C. Patterson, a mixed chorus supplying the music, the burial taking place at the North Branch cemetery where others of the family are interred.

Mr. Hubbard came here from Missouri in his early life and has made his home in different localities in Madison County during his entire life of more than seventy nine years. In his early manhood he married Miss Emily Whited of Winterset who now survives him. To them a large family were born, eight of whom are now living: Mrs. J. H. Peacock of Crystal Lake, Minnesota, Mrs. Myrtle Dooley of Valley Junction, James Hubbard of De Soto, Mrs. Tom Allen of Booneville, Dewey of Garden Grove, California, William and Alan of Sterling, Colorado, and Tom of North Branch.

Relatives who came to attend his funeral include Mrs. J. H. Dooley, and Floyd Hubbard of Crystal Lake, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. James Dooley, and daughter Mildred of Valley Junction, Mrs. Emma Early of Winterset, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Baker and family of North Branch, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Allen of Booneville, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hubbard of North Branch and many others of whom we are not familiar. Mr. Hubbard leaves eight children, forty grandchildren, and a number of great grandchildren.

John David Hubbard, the son of Allen and Mary Hubbard, was born in the state of Missouri on January 12, 1856, and passed away on March 12, 1935. Mr. Hubbard was 79 years and 2 months old at the time of his death.

On December 13, 1879 he was united in marriage to Emily Whited at Winterset. To this union were born eleven children, eight of which are living. He is survived by his wife, the eight children: Mrs. G. H. Peacock of Lake Crystal, Minnesota; Thomas of Winterset; James of De Soto; Mrs. J. P. Dooley of Valley Junction; William of Sterling, Colorado; Mrs. Tommy Allen of Iliff, Colorado and Dewey of Garden Grove, California. Two sons, Robert and George and an infant daughter preceded him in death.

In addition to his wife and children, he also leaves to mourn his passing, forty grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and three sisters: Mrs. Nancy Clear of Truman, Minnesota, Mrs. Lou Layman of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Mrs. Mary Herman of Ness City, Kansas.

Mr. Hubbard spent most of his life in the state of Iowa, and for the last eleven years lived in De Soto. He was a kind and loving husband and father and he will be missed by his family, his neighbors and his friends.
