The City and County

Many readers of the Madisonian and especially those of Lee and Jefferson townships, will regret to hear of the death of Mrs. Mattie Renshaw Hayner, at her home in Portland, Ore. on Oct. 24th. Mrs. Hayner was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lon Renshaw, who moved here from Clayton county many years ago. A more extended sketch of her life will be found elsewhere in this paper.

Effie Renshaw Hayner

Died in Portland, Ore., Oct 24, 1918 of bronchial pneumonia, Mrs. Effie A. Renshaw Hayner, wife of T. H. Hayner, and mother of Mrs. Gladys Lambert and Calvin, Russell and Maurine Hayner. Mrs. Hayner was the daughter of Leonidas and Marriet Renshaw and was born in Grand Meadow township, Clayton county, Iowa, Oct. 10, 1865, her mother passing away the following March, 1866. Two brothers were also born to this union, Byron B. and Oscar O. Renshaw, who joined their mother several years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Renshaw moved to Portland, Ore., in the fall of 1913, where they resided at the time of her death. Mr. Renshaw married Miss Angeline Alger, March 14, 1867, and of this union are survived with the parents, Mrs. Mattie Dabney, Mrs. Linnie Cottingham, Mrs. Gladys Osborne of Portland Ore., Mrs. Mabel Fox of Indianola, Iowa; and M. B. Renshaw of Seattle, Wash.

Leonidas Renshaw and family will be remembered as old time residents of Madison county, where all the younger family were born and where the entire family practically grew to manhood and womanhood. In early life, Mrs. Hayner enlisted in the service of Jesus and passed quietly and sweetly away to "awake in His likeness".
