Thursday, October 10, 1935Julia Ann Jones, daughter of John E. and Jane Ramsey Jones was born October 7, 1852 near West Newton, Indiana. It was there she spent her happy childhood days.
In 1867 her parents, with their family, moved to Iowa and settled just north of Earlham. Later they moved to Redfield. There Julia Ann spent many tiresome hours working in the woolen mills.
After living in Des Moines, Spring Hill and Stuart she decided to make her home in Earlham and moved here in 1893 to become a resident for more than forty years. She passed away September 30, 1935, lacking just seven days of reaching her eighty-third birthday.
Miss Jones was reared by Christian parents, her father being a minister in the Methodist church. She was a member of the Earlham M. E. church. She was a friend indeed and always helpful to those in sickness or distress. She was a talented seamstress and her work was widely known. In her passing Earlham has lost another of its pioneer residents who with untiring ways and hardships made themselves homes. In her latter years she was always thanking Earlham friends who contributed to her welfare and happiness and who assisted in the care of her brother Dan, who preceded her in death November 23, 1934.
She leaves to mourn her passing one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Salvers, of Spring Hill, Iowa, one brother, Joseph Jones of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, two nieces and two nephews besides other relatives and friends.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. L. G. Wolfe were held Thursday afternoon, October 3, at 2 o’clock at the Earlham M.E. church. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
