LARRY EUGENE JACKSON, WINTERSET

Larry Eugene Jackson, 76, of Winterset, Iowa, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at Mercy Hospice - Johnston in Johnston, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 5, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Rev. Dr. Beverlee Bell officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.

Larry was born on April 27, 1935, at Winterset, Iowa to George and Ruth (Gamble) Jackson. He had been a lifetime resident of Winterset. Shortly after graduating from Winterset High School in 1953, Larry served in the United States Army for two years. While serving in the military he married Twyla Jean Hoeness on May 22, 1957, at Winterset. He returned to Winterset after being discharged to begin a career of farming and being a rural mail carrier. Larry had been a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church having served on several boards and singing in the church choir, member of the Winterset Lion’s Club, 14 year school board member and past president, and former member and officer of the Madison County Pork Producers. He also helped serve Thanksgiving dinners at the First United Methodist Church the past eight years. He and Twyla were also members of the Covered Bridge Camping Club. Larry was a devoted husband and a loving father.

Larry is survived by his wife, Twyla Jackson of Winterset; children Vicki (Chris) Stanford of Winterset, Jeff (Donna) Jackson of Winterset, and Eric (Kristi) Jackson of Urbandale; brothers Dick (Karen) Jackson of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Phillip (Terry) Jackson of Tigard, Ore.; sisters-in-law Judy Jackson of Clermont, Fla., and Virginia Reed of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Angela (Matt) Lahr, Andrea (Brian) Reynolds, Ethan Jackson, Bailey Jackson, Blu Jackson and Hunter Jackson; step-grandchildren, Jason (Lindsay) Stanford, Kelli Stanford, Abby Jacobs and Brandon Jacobs; great-grandchildren Kayden Lahr, Bradley Lahr and Hunter Reynolds; step-great grandchildren Kennedy Stanford, Cael Stanford, Madisyn Gordon and Karsyn Stanford; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth (Gamble) Jackson; and a brother, William W. Jackson.

Memorials given to the family will be directed to the First United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by
McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
