Sarah Effie McKee was born near Macksburg, Ia April 2, 1887, and died in Macksburg, Sept. 24, 1906, aged 19 years, 6 months and 23 days. She was married March 17, 1905 to Vern P. Guthrie who survives her. She leaves a mother, two half-sisters, three brothers and one sister to mourn her loss. The two half sisters are Mrs. Lizzie Jones, of Creston and Mrs. Addie M. Smith, of Spaulding. The brothers are L. C. and J. L. McKee of Macksburg and O. L. McKee of Livingston, Mont. The sister is Mrs. Julia A. Miller, of Winterset.

The deceased was apparently in good health until a few months ago when she was taken ill with what proved to be consumption of the bowels. The relatives sought the best medical skill, but all in vain. Death soon claimed her as his victim. Yet in this sad bereavement the relatives sorrow not as those who have no hope.

The last few weeks of her sickness were spent in the home of her mother. She endured all her sufferings with great patience and faced death calmly, exhorting all her loved ones to meet her on the brighter shore. Mrs. Guthrie was converted a few years ago at a tent meeting held in Macksburg, conducted by Brother Molloy, of Albion, Ia.

The funeral services were conducted by C. E. Trueblood in the M. E. church at Macksburg, Tuesday, Sept. 25th at two o'clock. The interment took place in the Macksburg cemetery.
